cause for hepatic encehalopathy

 Hepatic encephalopathy is caused by liver dysfunction resulting in buildup of toxic substances in the blood, which can affect brain function. Common causes of liver dysfunction include:

  1. Cirrhosis (scarring) of the liver
  2. Acute liver failure
  3. Chronic liver disease
  4. Hepatitis (viral liver inflammation)
  5. Excessive alcohol consumption
  6. Toxins or medications that damage the liver
  7. Portosystemic shunting (bypass of blood around liver)
  8. Electrolyte imbalances, such as high levels of ammonia.
